Political Writing

Since autumn 2016 I’ve been writing a series of essays and live-from-the-scene reports on the political climate in the US and the UK. I release these direct via Facebook. To keep up-to-date you can follow me here. Previous essays are collated on this site.

This project began with five dispatches from Chicago and New York during 2016’s tempestuous election week in the US. In January 2017 I ran a successful crowdfunder to cover President Trump’s inauguration and the Women’s March on Washington in a similar style.

I’m now writing a series of ‘flashback dispatches‘ based on deep conversations with voters from all over the political spectrum, conducted across multiple states in autumn 2016.

Since returning from the US I’ve reported on an English Defence League demonstration in London, and published a lengthy reflection on the political violence in Charlottesville. I also wrote a critique of Jeremy Corbyn’s 2017 election campaign in the UK, attempting to apply the lessons I think I’ve learned from my time in the States.
